I have made a study of photography for the last 20 years, using both film and digital. Before opening my own studio, I worked with an acclaimed commercial photographer for eight years, and I owe a lot of what I know now to that experience. So, thank you, Hans Sipma of Hans Sipma Photography in Vancouver. You probably still miss that hot cup of coffee that patiently awaited your arrival!
I have two wonderful dogs that bring a smile to my face every day. Of course I have lots of photos of them. (There can’t be too many, can there?) I love dogs and love taking pictures of them. And then all of a sudden, just a few short years back, I’m taking pictures of dogs in my own studio and, well, I decided to throw a doggy boutique into the mix.
One of the most satisfying aspects, so far, has been my work with the Vancouver Animal Shelter, helping to place dogs that need a home. It continues to be a successful endeavour for the dogs. You can view some of the adoptable dogs here in the
up for adoption portion of the website. Maybe you’ll adopt one…nudge nudge. Oh, and I must mention the HugABull Advocacy and Rescue Society. When I can, I snap a few shots of adoptable, beautiful, bully breeds. Take a peek at the
HugABull website for their adoptable dogs.
Some big-shot celebrity dogs have come through the doors and into the photo studio. Louie, for one. You know Louie, don’t you?? He's the cute, little, white Staffordshire Terrier from the movie Snatch with Brad Pitt. He claims he got lots of pats from Mr. Pitt. You might catch a glimpse of him strolling around Yaletown in Vancouver…Louie, that is.
Jessica Alba’s dogs Bowie and Sid have graced us with their presence. And then there is actor Tom McCarthy's dog Georgia and writers Caroline Williams and Drew Goddard's dog Maddie. Canuck fans should know Johanna and Henrik Sedin’s dog, Elsa. Or Pinot, Megan and Willie Mitchell’s Spaniel mix. The Bieksas – actually that was their beautiful baby, Cole, that I photographed. Okay, okay, I’m dropping names. But I’m proud of my work!
You can see some of my work in issues of Modern Dog magazine (only the greatest dog magazine going). In addition, some of my photography has been purchased abroad for use on book covers, and has also been featured in jewellery books.
